Now we will discuss the Continues Tense of the English language. As we have discussed before Present indefinite if you miss it you can read this here Present Indefinite Tense. So now we talk about Present Continues Tense. This tense is again an integral part of English which uses under different situations. It can be in Present, Past, and future forms. These all form we will discuss here individually. Before starting the exercise we recommend that you should read about Indefinite Tense. This will also help you to understand the continuous tense. Let, start with continuous tense.

 

WHAT IS PRESENT CONTINUOUS TENSE

This tense is used when for an event happening now and happening continuously without any disturbance. In a present continuous tense, is, are, and am helping verb are used. While the first form of the verb used with addition as ing like ( call+ing=calling ) it is called present participate because present participle is also formed by first + ing. Now Take a look of continue these with examples.

He is going to school = Positive Present continuous

He is not going to school= Negative form of Present continuous

Is he going to school+= Interrogative Present continuous

Is he not going to school= Negative and interrogative present continuous

It is raining

I am working

They are going home

He is doing his job

she is washing the clothes.

NOTE

The above examples show that work in progress. It is not finished yet. We do not know how long it will take to finish. On the other hand in negative sentences, you just have to put not before ing form of the verb. In interrogative sentences, you should use the helping verb before the subject and the rest of the sentence will remain the same. While as far as the interrogative negative sentence is a concern, you should place the helping verb before the subject and put not after the subject remaining sentence structure will remain the same.

We do not know when the rain started and when it will finish. But right now it is raining continuously. Now Let,s examine the exact structure of the present continuous tense

Here in the above example, He is Subject, is = helping verb while doing is present participle or first form of the verb with ing addition and lastly the Job is an object.

PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

In the Past continuous tense, we will use was and were. So the rest of the sentence will remain the same. There will be no change in it

For example

Present Continuous Tense = It is raining

Past Continuous Tense = It was raining

Past negative continuous will be = It was not raining

Past interrogative continuous will be = was it raining and so on

FUTURE CONTINUOUS TENSE

In the future continuous tense will and shall forms are used. You have to just put helping verbs in its exact places as we put helping verbs in the present continuous tense. You can also consult the following table for further understanding.
